Lauren Douglas
Artist's Statement:
I am a mixed media collage artist living in South Milwaukee, WI. I have a BA in art and art
therapy from Mount Mary College. I have exhibited in local shows including Cardinal Stritch
Mile Of Art and Mount Mary Starving Artist Show. I have shown pieces in galleries all across
the country, including Laguna Beach, CA; Longmont, CO; Raleigh, NC; Norfolk, VA; Kansas
City, MO; Overland Park, KA; Tieton, WA; Galesburg, IL; St. Louis, MO; Hudson, NY; Key West,
FL, and Smyrna, GA where I won an award for excellence. I have work in the permanent
collection at Carl Sandburg College and also have pieces for sale in several local shops in my
area.
My work is very much influenced by the writings of Thomas Wolfe. The poignancy of passing
time and the beauty, mystery and whimsy of moonlight are frequent themes. A muted,
monochrome palette and the use of old photographs (always my own or purchased at second
hand stores) and often layers of different textured papers and fabrics are my motif. I often use
words in my work to create a narrative and stimulate the imagination of the viewer.
